BACK TO : PETTING ZOO
The calf gang (summer 1998)
I have never met a calf I didnt like. Thats more than I can
say for some people or their children.
The first calf this year I bought was an almost started
holstine hefer. I paid about $50 at the auction for her.
As this happened to be my only one at the
time I guess I doted over her quite alot and she has grown
so far up as the most gentel calf ive ever raised. Im training
her to drive, and as soon as I rescue my pony cart from
the bees we will start training her to pull a cart. Eventually
she should be trained enough to ride.
the next two were a jersey bull calf (they give them away
at the local dairy) and a black hefer calf which I paid $7
at the auction. WHY? I wonder that too! Well the jersey was
cuter than the average jersey and the black calf has this
incredible smile she wears.
..of course I start taming all my calfs right away. They sit
in my lap and fall asleap while I surf the internet. After a
few times of this, im right up there with their mama.
The last calf I bought was a big galloop they said was brown
swiss bull calf. Its mostly white thou. It was scoured so
bad its stools were red with blood, but the oatmeal formula Ive
developed (from various sources) brought it back from the dead.
I paid $12 for him and pound for pound he was the best deal
so far.
THE GANG
I let them roam loose during the day, so they have formed a
"gang" and attack stuff like defensless lawn chairs:
FEEDING TIME
.... so when its afternoon feeding time:
"OPEN UP...Its feeding time! WE KNOW YOUR IN THERE!"
"WHATS THIS?" ".... hummm no milk here"
"AH...... about time!"
and this story continues..........
